Movie Review – Movie 43
While there are plenty of movies that critics hate, Movie 43 is one of the few that was actually a box office smash. Featuring a star-studded cast, this raunchy comedy shattered the boundaries of good taste.
The movie features 15 vignettes starring big-name stars like Kate Winslet, Hugh Jackman, Liev Schreiber and Uma Thurman. The skits range from mildly silly to downright gross and tasteless.
Dennis Quaid
Dennis Quaid gave a stellar performance in this movie that was surprisingly underrated. He played a paleoclimatologist who tried to warn the world about impending calamities. He was successful in raising awareness, but no one took him seriously.
Julianne Moore was also very good in this movie. She is well known for her roles in Still Alice, The Hunger Games and Boogie Nights.
Bob Odenkirk
A foul-mouthed filmmaker tries to pitch his movie to a Hollywood executive in this off-beat comedy. It features a host of familiar faces in hilarious and often offensive scenarios.
Bob Odenkirk is best known for his roles in Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul. He co-stars with Naomi Watts in this bizarre film. The rest of the cast includes Elizabeth Banks, Steven Brill, Rusty Cundieff and James Duffy.
Naomi Watts
Naomi Watts is among a powerhouse cast that includes Kate Winslet, Halle Berry, Gerard Butler, Josh Duhamel, Emma Stone, and Chloe Grace Moretz. The film’s storylines range from truth-or-dare blind dates to superhero speed dating to a black basketball team playing a white team.
A heavy dose of cringe comedy is served up in Movie 43. Several of the sketches are funny enough to be worth checking out.
Julianne Moore
Julianne Moore and Tony Shalhoub star as a mother and father searching for their breast flashing daughter. Movie 43 is an anything-goes comedy that shatters the boundaries of good taste.
It took a decade for the film to get into production, as most studios rejected it. The final result was an execrable waste cooked up by a hell’s kitchen of directors and writers.
J.B. Smoove
Jerry Angelo Brooks, known professionally as J. B. Smoove, is an American actor and comedian. He began his career in 1995 on the sketch comedy television series Def Comedy Jam and has appeared in a number of popular movies and shows.
He is best known for his role as Leon Black on the HBO comedy series Curb Your Enthusiasm, in which he plays Larry David’s eccentric and quick-witted roommate. His larger-than-life personality and infectious energy make him a beloved entertainer.
Seann William Scott
Despite the loose plot and outrageous humor, Movie 43 managed to find an audience. The cast of A-list actors and silly skits helped sell the film.
Scott has struggled to avoid typecasting as a character who plays frat bros and other thinly-veiled variations on Stifler from American Pie. He recently gave television another shot with Timms Valley, a stop-motion animated show.
Seth MacFarlane
You probably don’t remember Movie 43, the grossout flick that debuted early last year and was trashed by every critic in town. It stars a long list of A-listers including Hugh Jackman, Kate Winslet, Halle Berry, Liev Schreiber, Anna Faris, Kristen Bell, Jason Sudeikis and Christopher Mintz-Plasse.
Family Guy creator MacFarlane helms this series of interconnected short films. Unfortunately, the film doesn’t deliver even a fraction of the laughs it promises.
Johnny Knoxville
The cast of A-list actors, silly skits and outlandish plot made this movie a cult classic. Its outrageous humor and loose plot made it entertaining for anyone who enjoyed it as a guilty pleasure.
Johnny Knoxville is best known for his role in the MTV series Jackass. He is an expert at extreme stunts that almost always result in injury. He also hosts the reality show Prank Wars.
Julie Ann Emery
It took a while for Movie 43 to hit the theaters. It finally arrived in 2013 to abysmal reviews. But it still managed to find an audience.
A good absurd comedy will make the audience laugh by shocking them with something they don’t expect. But this film fails to shock and instead resorts to vulgarity and taboos. It is not funny at all.
Bobby Cannavale
Bobby Cannavale is well-known for his roles in Curb Your Enthusiasm and American Dad. He plays a character who has a very unique way of looking at things.
Movie 43 has some hilarious and offensive segments. Parents should be aware of some of the scenes in the movie that are not necessarily appropriate for children. There is also frequent use of scatological slang and crude details about bodily functions.
